Wardrobe downsize

What I have just done is drastic!! I wish I had taken a before picture. I've seen many posts on the "10 piece challenge" and have decided to try it.

Basically, I get 5 tops, 5 bottoms, and a few dresses and jackets per season. All must fit correctly, and they must work with more than one other piece (ie a top must work with a few pants or pants and skirt. ) accessories are unlimited, as scarves, jewelry, shoes, etc. can dress up or down an outfit to suit the occasion.

You can have 10 pieces per season, or some can overlap, such as jeans or cardigans. (Even better!) since I have a special dress code for work, I didn't count it in the 5x5; it's just split for seasons.

The advantages to this system are less laundry (fewer clothes means only washing once or twice a week - no buildup!) and less try-on session (you already know it all fits!)

The disadvantage: less variety. However; this can really be an eye-opener into  what your own true style is, so I feel I will not mind the repeats after a while.

I'm still in the process of catching up on laundry and weeding out clothing. I might even hit up goodwill or savers for one or two things. I will post final pictures!  For now, 5 garbage bags are headed for donation! Shoes, tops, dresses, you name it!

Next up: my kindergarten son's closet! A 5 year old boy does NOT need this many clothes!

What I've been up to...

I've been AWOL from the blog world for a while (aside from reading other blogs) because I've been super busy sewing!

In the past 3 months, I've cranked out 4 baby quilts, and a tshirt quilt for my son. I made a bunch of fleur-de-lis mug rugs for my son's preschool teachers, and a few bags/purses. I also made a table runner for a forum swap.

I'm also in the process of making a twin size quilt with an angel panel for my great-grandmother, and have the fabric pulled and set aside for a queen size quilt for my own bed! (minky-backed, of course! ;) )

Whew! Just writing it all down is exhausting! I spent the majority of the day yesterday sorting and folding my entire fabric stash. I'm far from done, but I'm seeing major improvement. No more rooting through bins for me! I can now clearly see what I have to use, and how much. I'm realizing that I have fabrics I didn't realize I had, and much more of them! Score one for me!!

So now, it's time for another cup of coffee, and back to the grind before the organizing bug lets go! Enjoy the pictures!
